Impatience
or how I found the invitation I'd been waiting for
Someone asked me yesterday if I could ping the agent who is (very) kindly in receipt of my full manuscript. I am not one to pester people, but I could share an update on recent work. There’s my latest review, which went live earlier this week, of Rehearsals for Dying, the stunning memoir by
.And then I remembered that an excerpt (from an early 2025 version) of my manuscript will soon be published by Stone Canoe, a print-only literary magazine. I had thought that the publication was due out in September. Had I missed it? Surely not.
I searched my email and, lo and behold, I realized that my inbox had squirrelled away an invitation to the release party for Stone Canoe’s 2025 issue. The invitation had been sent in September. The release party is tomorrow!
Stone Canoe’s editor graciously responded to my panicked email—no, I won’t be able to fly to Syracuse for the party, but can I participate remotely? He sent me the Zoom link and asked me to prepare a two-minute reading, but with the proviso that, just perhaps, they might not have the technical savvy to allow me to read.
