This linguist loved your description of Japanese, especially the "suffering passive" - not something I had heard of before! The lack of verbal and nominal morphology sounds so refreshing, especially since I'm currently 3 years into learning Sanskrit, whose nouns and adjectives can have 3 genders, 3 numbers, 8 cases, and at least a dozen regular and irregular declensions, and whose verbs have 3 numbers, 3 persons, 6 or 8 tenses and moods, and ten conjugational classes. Not to mention gerunds, gerundives, desideratives, and half a dozen types of participles.
Best energy for the acceptance of your essay. (Also—90 minute commute. Yeah, no.)
thank you!
In Rehab this week, I learned the Japanese expression for one’s knee giving out. There is a word for everything here! lol
Was it "poko"?

I can't even fathom the mental fortitude needed for Sanskrit. Brava, Sarah! I envy you!
